You can take this with you

cell phone loveYou’ve heard the expression, you can’t take it with you… Well you CAN take THIS with you! No matter where you go, you are able to hang out with your friends and share what ever you want from anywhere. Right now, one of my best friends is in New Orleans, and another is in London for a couple week vacation. I miss them but still get to see them a little bit here and there when they can get a few minutes free.

Another of my best friends used to travel all the time. This is excellent In that type of situation. There is something very special about feeling so connected and able to spend time with your friends no matter where you find yourself.

kiss the phoneWhen I’m away, it’s often with family so I try to be good and really just miss the friendship. But sometimes when you are away if you are alone this can also be Very reassuring in a sexy kind of way. It’s hard to have a social life anywhere else if you are traveling all the time, but the Internet is never very far away today.

Remote IMVU on your phone

Its really just crazy that in 2012, imvu still can’t get it together and make an iphone app that doesn’t crash every 2 minutes–it doesn’t even do any of the 3D chat stuff! But for those of you with a desktop computer at home or work you can leave on, there’s hope.

You’re going to need to setup some kind of remote desktop program on your computer. Windows comes with Windows Remote Desktop built in but its a pain to setup. You then need to download a remote desktop app for the phone. If you have Parallels for the Mac, their iphone app is super easy to use. Some of these programs install weird things on your computer. As always be wary of what you download.

What you get it is the entire screen of your desktop computer shrunk down onto your phone. When the keyboard’s open its even smaller. You’re also going to want a fast phone and a fast data connection, otherwise it quickly gets painful. I use the lowest image quality (black and white and blurry) for fastest speeds.

And then you’ll have to figure out how to pinch and zoom a lot between the chat window and the dialog boxes and to see the avis, to make up for the small screen and how to use weird gestures to make up for the inability to scroll and right click and drag and click. All this depends on the program you’re using.

Newer iphones have built in speech recognition which helps makes up for the trickier typing. Though usually i’m outside or on the train so that’s trickier to use. I also normally rely on speech bubbles on the phone, because the screen’s too small to see both the chat window and the avis.

Despite all these headaches, it all works quite well. It doesn’t crash nearly as much and even if your phone crashes, the program is still running just fine on your desktop and you can log right back in. Also, nothing absolutely nothing, beats a good cuddle, snuggling up in your loves arms, especially when you need it. This is how you get it on the go… Katy… IMVU scientist.
